On Thursday July 18 and Friday July 19, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Strategic Campaigns Department met with 23 University of Minnesota Teamsters in Minneapolis who are representative of all the main campuses including the research campus in Austin.
University Teamsters participated in an organizer training to develop communication action networks at their worksites and with their co-workers.
The campaign department discussed the financial intricacies of the University system including donor information and foundation investments.
Friday morning University Teamsters chanted; “U of M, rich and rude, we don’t like your attitude!”
Unlike other state entities such as the Minnesota State system and the agencies of the Judicial Branch, the University of Minnesota has financial dealings that are not transparent. The University’s autonomy or sovereignty may be responsible for its financial ambiguity with the public; nevertheless, they must negotiate a labor contract in good faith with the Teamsters.
Bobby Kasper, President on the Saint Paul Regional Labor Federation, addressed the group and pledged support for Teamsters who are campaigning to win a fair contract.
We look forward to negotiating all Teamsters Local 320 contracts this summer and fall!
