Teamster Sisters and Brothers-
Today our state can claim victory as Teamster endorsed candidates overwhelmingly won their election battles. There were a few races where Local 320 supported candidates came up short, but overall we did exceptionally well.
The most important race for Local 320 was for Governor of Minnesota and our candidate, Tim Walz, won resoundingly across the state. His victory is a clear and profound rejection of Wisconsin-style politics. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker lost his re-election as Wisconsinites rebuffed his legacy of bashing unions, scapegoating public workers, and devastating budget cuts.
The Minnesota House of Representatives flipped from GOP to DFL control following yesterday’s election. For either party to gain control of the Minnesota House, they must win at least 68 seats. The DFL won 18 additional seats and went from 57 seats to 75 seats, while the GOP went from 77 seats to 59 seats.
The Minnesota Senate will remain in GOP control by one seat following the special election in Senate District 13 where State Representative Jeff Howe (R) prevailed over Joe Perske (DFL) to fill the Senate seat vacated by Lt. Governor Michelle Fischbach.
Former Local 320 member and Teamster endorsed candidate for Hennepin County Sheriff Dave “Hutch” Hutchinson won his election by unseating longtime incumbent Sheriff Rich Stanek.
Local 320 member and Assistant Public Defender Anne Marcotte won her re-election to the Aitkin County Board.
Teamsters Local 320 is grateful to all its members and supporters who helped make this election successful for working families. Local 320 and Joint Council 32 ratcheted up its GOTV efforts like never before and employed member-organizers and sent a GOTV convoy across the state to meet with Teamsters.
Teamsters Local 320 will continue to organize, and mobilize, to reach the full potential of our victory, and together we will secure the futures of our members and their families.
